Future 5 Student Advocate – Full Time

Located at 135 Atlantic Street, Stamford, CT, Future 5 empowers motivated, low-income high school students. With 70+ volunteers Future 5 runs workshops and programs that prepare and connect students to post-secondary education, careers, and ultimately financial independence. Future 5 has served over 500 students since 2009, has a 100% HS graduation rate, and 86% are the first generation to go to college.

The ideal candidate should be high energy, enjoy working with motivated high school students, enjoy hands on projects, field trips and making connections with the Stamford community. This job is ideal for a recent college graduate and those with one or two-year work experience.

Working closely with the Future 5’s Director of Students, this individual will help facilitate workshops, assist in general day-to-day operations. The Student Advocate will collaborate with the Future 5 staff and assist in the management of the Future 5 student experience. The job will be customized to play to the strengths of the ideal candidate.

Qualifications:

  • Must enjoy working with high school students
  • Self-starter with ability to initiate projects
  • Positive, outgoing personality, high energy
  • Extroverted
  • Good people and communication skills
  • Willing to take on new tasks and opportunities
  • Must have a valid CT driver’s license and a clean driving record (you may be asked to use your personal vehicle to transport student members)
  • Must be a college graduate
  • Spanish-speaking a plus (bilingual)

Future 5 Community Engagement Student Advocate – Full Time

Enhance Future 5’s community service program. Over this summer the Community Engagement Student Advocate will build upon and execute a program where every Friday during the school year and during school and summer vacations students and Future 5 coaches will have the opportunity to volunteer throughout the community.

Research outside organizations where Future 5 students can participate in their events and services i.e the Ferguson Library.

Post daily student activities on Facebook and Instagram, provide volunteer content for a monthly newsletter.

Set up a LinkedIn group for members who have graduated high school.

Actively seek out potential internship/employment opportunities for students.

Will mentor a group of students throughout the year.

This job is ideal for a recent college graduate with up to three-years work experience.

Qualifications:

  • Live in the greater Stamford area (max 30 minute commute to the office)
  • Must have a valid CT driver’s license and a clean driving record (you will be asked to use your personal vehicle to transport student members)
  • College graduate

Future 5 Academic Student Advocate – Full Time

Responsible transitioning students from high school into post secondary education, trade school and military.

Working with Future 5’s College Prep co-directors responsible for supporting Future 5’s year college prep programs and academic workshops http://futurefive.org/ourprogram/

Track student’s ongoing high school data to match college admissions requirements and support the college selection process. Communicate this information to Future 5 staff, College Prep Co-Directors and College Coaches.

Support the FAFSA and verification process, over time developing an expertise to help College Coaches and their students.

Support the scholarship search process, over time developing an expertise and knowledge of the top scholarships that Future 5 students have received.

Communicating with college admissions and financial aid departments with students to help resolve issues and advocate for them.

Organizing and coordinating college visits for seniors during the fall application season as well as in the spring with accepted students.

Organizing and coordinating college visits for juniors during the summer before senior year.

Developing and maintaining working relationships with local colleges and universities.

Coordinating/collecting necessary paperwork to track juniors ongoing high school data to match college admissions requirements and support future college selection process.

Coordinating SAT Prep/Tutoring for juniors and track juniors who take the SAT/ACT, collect and compile standardized test scores for Future 5 staff and coaches.

Help transition students to Norwalk Community College.

Assist in the running of Future 5 skill builders. A series of academic workshops.
